Loch Lomond on Penny Jam

Hats off to the Penny Jammers!  It doesn’t take a special camera to make the photegenic band look great, but they are sounding particularly great in this live performance of “Ghost Of An Earthworm” (track 1 on the new EP) hosted at The Ace.  Nice work audio engineers!

The tempo might come as a surprise to some.  Who would have thought Loch Lomond was ready for Mtv-esque jumpcuts?

“Behind all its ornate instrumentation and chamber arrangements, Loch Lomond is a pop band. You could always hear it in spots—the gentle chug of “Field Report,” the plucked strings and gallop of “Blue Lead Fences”—but never before has the six piece band been in full pop mode. Until now.

In the 26th (!) edition of the Penny Jam, Loch Lomond play its new and super poppy song “The Ghost of an Earthworm” in the warm, book-bound confines of the Ace Hotel.  Man, Loch Lomond is on a serious R.E.M. kick. And I have no problem with that.” – Michael Mannheimer, Willamette Week

Laura sends a dispatch via the BBC airwaves, with this Radio 6 interview and studio session with Marc Riley. (With all respect to the BBC, we’ve taken the liberty of making it easier to find and listen to here:)

Laura Gibson Interview & Session on BBC6

Laura just kicked off a month of dates, mostly with Alela Diane, in support the EU release of Beasts of Seasons [Souterrain], before a west coast run here in the states, and then shooting over to Japan with Ethan Rose. She talks about this, life in Coquille, and her recent prison performance with the gregarious Riley.

And while in London, she snapped this shot of a big Peter Broderick poster:

Novi Split “Hollow Notes” EP Download

There is no better way to describe David J’s latest music release than to just hear it:

Novi Split – “Hollow Notes” EP Sampler Mix

or, in his own words:

Check it. Novi Split. Hollow Notes. These songs come from the last few years of recording, and were recorded for a number of reasons. 1. Hollow Notes. This is a song I wrote so when I listen to it, I can feel sorry for myself. 2. New Kids. I wrote this song not too long ago. It’s weird. 3. Keep My Word. My friend CMG wrote this one. He’s doing a better version of this song on his new album coming out in October. Check it: myspace.com/CMGlovesyou. 4. Here’s To The Rescue. My friend Daniel Ahearn wrote this. I love this song.

The song “Hollow Notes” will lend some tenderness to a beach scene on the season premiere of the TV show One Tree Hill this Monday Sept 14th.

The EP download is available in the HUSHshop (with bonus songs) and iTunes.

Zoologists will tell you, if you ask them, that there is no need to try to parse the vocabulary or understand the grammar of animal language.

Jaina, who hinted at his penchant for long winded preambles in his tour diaries, has taken his writer’s pen and aimed it closer to home with a new column entitled Little Box Of Lies at LocalCut.com

Fortunately, Nick always has a nice payoff–a boomerang hook–for his four paragraphs of positing, and he tends to weave some pretty compelling prose that might just as soon be categorized under essays.  It’s a welcome formal and earnest note to the hard workin’ local blog.
